So Jack’s (Formerly Jack of Hearts) is the new club in town, or at least it has a new name and manager. They kicked it off with a $1k Guarantee tournament with a modest, but respectable, two table turnout. The really admirable thing was that the house had to give a $300 overlay. That’s right, the guarantee was honored despite the players not being able to cover, as it obviously should be in any tournament that has the word ‘guarantee’ attached to it. The other exciting thing was that the final 6 players enjoyed being ‘live streamed’ during play. Okay, it didn’t really stream live, but it was recorded and it should be released for our viewing pleasure soon.
Irving Gomez was the top finisher in Jack’s debut tournament, and I was able to get in a quick phone call with the winner. “Yeah, you could definitely tell they were under new management. The whole club had a great vibe, and the tournament structure was good,” Gomez shared with El Paso Poker Blog. I asked what the streaming was like. “Honestly, it got off to a slow start, slowing down play, like the first 10 mins, but after that it went really well. Of course I can’t wait to see. I was running hot yesterday,” responded Gomez.

I spoke with club manager Carlos aka Scarf over the phone about this. He said, “El Paso players can expect live streaming to be a regular thing at Jack’s. We are still working out some kinks, so we thought it would be a good idea to give it a try with a small tournament. Considering it was our first time trying the streaming cameras, it went pretty well.”

I also asked Scarf what tournaments we could expect in the near future, “Well first I want to say that nothing is more important to us than customer service across the board. We will make our freerollers feel like high rollers with our complimentary highend cocktails and outstanding menu. Also, you can be sure we are going to host the biggest poker tournament in El Paso history by the end of the year. I also want to do a really good bounty tournament. I don’t feel like anyone has been successful at it here in El Paso, and I know it can be a great tournament if done right. But for the near future, players can probably expect a multiflight tournament from us at the end of February.”
UPDATE: $25k Tourney FEB 21-26. Final Table will be streamed!
I told Scarf I liked Freezeouts. True Freezeouts. And asked if he would be hosting any in the future. “Yeah for sure. Really want to have a regular day for freezeout tournaments. With like a $150-$175 buyin.”
Speaking of tournaments staying true to its name:

Top two finishers will get a seat tonight in the House of Kings $23k Guaranteed tournament (no minimum players of course) happening next week. Each seat is worth $150. And if that isn’t enough. There are no rebuys or add-ons. That’s right, a real man’s (or woman’s) tournament. A true freezeout, not an ‘El Paso freezeout’ (but that will have to be a topic for another post). And get this. You don’t even have to be an existing member, anyone can join!
