El Paso Poker is starting 2023 off on the right foot by finally having Guaranteed Tournaments without the fine print of needing a minimum number of entrants for the Guarantee to be honored. If you’re a regular tournament player not from El Paso, you probably just said, “Whaaaaat? Minimum Players required? Then it’s not a Guarantee!” I know, I know, but apparently the “El Paso Guarantee” is now no longer a thing.
This has been a thing for a while now, and I finally found my opportunity to bring it up when Sun City Card Club posted a Facebook advertisement this past December for a 10k Guarantee. I commented on the post asking what the minimum number of players required would be for the Guarantee to be honored. A stupid fucking question anywhere else in the country, but here in El Paso, the response I got was 60 players. 60 Players! Lmao. It’s especially hilarious because that amount of players would take the prize pool to $12k (assuming everyone gets the add on, which everyone usually does, not to mention rebuys).

So being the squeaky wheel that I am, I posted on the Facebook group El Paso Poker Players basically saying a tournament prize pool isn’t guaranteed if you require a minimum number of players. This would be like me telling my political clients that I guarantee they will win their race, but only if they get more than 50% of the vote. Fucking stupid, right?
But big ups to Sun City Card Club who commented on my post saying there will not be a minimum number of players required for the guarantee to be honored. The tournament ended up being a success as the prize pool exceeded the guarantee. House of Kings was quick to also comment on my post saying they always exceed the guarantee. To which I say, then why have a minimum amount of players required!? Have some confidence in your marketing and ability to put on a good tournament.

Well, big ups to House of Kings as well because they are hosting a $23k ($100 buyin + fees) Guarantee tournament this month, and you guessed it, they were sure to note that there is no minimum number of players required. And new kids in town High Society is also hosting a tournament this month, $10k Guarantee ($50 buy in + fees) with no min players required. And Sun City isn’t waiting to keep this going as they will be hosting a $15k Guarantee tournament in February, no min players required. This is great news for El Paso Poker, if we ever want to be a poker playing destination for players from around the country, or at least the Southwest.
The squeaky wheel got the grease.
